The Student Government Association’s mission is to provide a working environment conducive to education and student life, here at the College of Charleston. Many of the issues on our Legislative Agenda have come from suggestions of constituents from all classes. They may range from academics or specifically student life. For any questions, please contact the SGA at cofcsga@gmail.com or stop by our office in Stern Student Center 401.

- Webmail: Students have been experiencing issues with CofC Webmail over the past two years, with problems increasing over the past semester. The SGA is currently working with Information Technology in researching the possibility of outsourcing our webmail. The SGA has determined that Google’s G-Mail would provide the best alternative to our current system. If you are interested in this issue please contact John Capelle at capellej@cofc.edu.

- Institutional Non-Discrimination Statement: The Student Government Association is seeking to improve the College’s non-discrimination statement. If you are interested in this issue please contact Ross Kressel at kresselr@cofc.edu.

- Bike Parking On Campus: The need for extra bike parking locations is important for our pedestrian campus. The lack of enough bike racks has become apparent to the SGA. Senators are currently working with the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Student Life to work out a solution to the problem. If you are interested in this issue please contact Hunter Boone at hbboone@edisto.cofc.edu.

- Update of CRS Fields: The current state of the fields used by our Campus Recreation Services athletic teams are not up to par with others in our conference. The has become a main priority of several Senators who are working with CRS and the President’s Office to fix the state of our fields within the semester. IN PROCESS If you are interested in this issue please contact the President’s Office.

- Crosswalk across Coming Street, North of Bull Street: Safety for our fellow students is always a concern. The current crosswalk at Coming Street, just North of Bull, is not adequate when it comes to safety of pedestrian passage. Senators are working with Department of Public Safety and the City of Charleston Traffic Department to remedy the situation. IN PROCESS

- Teacher Evaluations: The Senators of the Academic Affairs committee have been working to submit student suggestions to the administration concerning the Teacher Evaluation Forms we all fill out at the end of each semester. If you have any input or are interested in this issue please contact Dan Mackin at dcmackin@edisto.cofc.edu.

-Folly Trolley: Senators are working with CARTA and the Folly City Council working to find a way of extended the current bus service on Folly Rd. to closer to the Beach. If you are interested in this issue please contact Isaiah Nelson at icnelson@edisto.cofc.edu.

-Academic Advising: The Academic Affairs Committee is talking to the Office of Academic Advising and the different academic departments on campus to find a way to improve the quality of academic advising available to students within their different programs. Currently there is no college-wide program for professors to take in order to learn about all the different policies affecting course registration, tuition, travel abroad opportunities, etc. The committee is seeking to offer a proposal on how professors can be better equipped to advise students. If you are interested in this issue please contact Daniel Mackin at dcmackin@edisto.cofc.edu

- Cougar Pulse Check: The SGA wants to know what you think about a multitude of different issues that affect this campus and your experience here. The Cougar Pulse Check will be available on the SGA Elections site available through Cougar TrailĀ on October 26th-November 1st. During these sweeps a group of students get together to help clean up a designated neighborhood on the peninsula or a section of Folly Beach.
