Academic Affairs
The Academic Affairs Committee serves the purpose as a link between the students, faculty, and administration through a number of different channels. We work as the voice of the students by serving on faculty committees and discussing academic issues and concerns with the the faculty and administration. Members of the Academic Affairs Committee research academic policies both at the College of Charleston in order to educate the student body and beyond our campus to consider the policies of undergraduate institutions throughout the state, region, and nation. We create legislation and lobby for changes to keep our academic policies up-to-date and at a high standard and to respond to student concerns and needs.

Our purpose can broaden and narrow in order to serve the student body to the best of our ability. Traditionally, we annually organize the Major-Minor Fair to educate students of the academic channels and options the college offers. The range of faculty committees in which we are involved reaches from ones that focus on academic standards to ones that deal with athletic affairs. Legislation brought to the SGA this year included resolutions concerning the proposed change in the general education requirements, to ensure that faculty members present a coherent grading scale on their syllabi, legislation concerning the printing policy. This year we are striving to enhance Faculty-Student and Administration-Student relations by working much more closely with Faculty Senate and members of the administration to ensure that students’ concerns are heard by those who are truly able to effect change.
Overall, we work for the student body in order to make their academic experience at the College of Charleston interesting, worthwhile, and as enjoyable as possible.
