My original plan for the course was, in fact, to provide you all with the analytical tools to support your addiction to Futurama. Imagine my delight that it worked! Seriously, Hannah, thanks for your reflection here, and I’m especially glad to hear that what the course offered, at least in part, was an additional set of perspectives for you to consider as we are all confronted with significant cultural questions over the coming years.

I just started reading Ian Bogost’s new book _Alien Phenomenology_ this weekend and there he makes a similar critique of posthumanism. I really encourage you to take a look at it — it’s wonderfully readable, not to mention continuing work on the OOO world you enjoyed visiting last semester.

It does seem that YA fiction is full of figures and experiences that relate in one way or another to themes of the course. Clearly they abound in films, too. In what we tend to call “Literature,” however, they make less frequent appearances, it seems. I wonder what might explain this?

We do tend not to hear from or live vicariously through the zombies, do we? It’s intriguing to think about what changes when we do. It seemed from the trailer as if his only difference from his previous non-zombie human experience was his need to eat human flesh (which, admittedly, is quite a difference).
