Its fun to have multiple “families” spread around the world! I just came back from visiting my “Seattle” family from when I was an exchange student there in 1984, still life-long friends and I still route for the University of Washington Huskies after all these years!

I also had the same experience in Trujillo — sprained my ankle and got all the attention (if not more), X-Rays, crutches, etc., that I would have had here in the States. All for nothing! It really is amazing. And definitely food for thought!

Hi there,
Found your blog whilst looking for the English School in Trujillo, as I wanted to see if they teach Spanish, as well as English. Where abouts are you living? We are a couple of Brits who have just moved out from the UK, and are now living about 10 mins from Trujillo. Sounds like you have been having fun with the food and markets etc. I would love to know where the organic farm is with the eggs and stuff. I have been to a few markets round here, including Madronera and Miajadas, as well as the big Carrefour supermarkets at Caceres and near Don Benito. I find that meat in particular is more expensive than in the uk. If you would like to get in touch, and I hope that you do, please give me a ring on 638097023. Sorry we don’t have a landline, but the house we live in at the moment does not have a landline.

Hey Deb!

That sounds unbelievably AMAZING. I am so so jealous of all of you right now. I am sitting in a philosophy class not listening and reading your blog instead.
“I hope I can manage to slow down the pace of my life back in Charleston somehow so I can feel half as adventurous, spontaneous, happy and relaxed back home as I do here in Trujillo.”

That quote really hit home for me just because I remember when I studied in Rennes, France a few years ago. Even though it was only for two weeks, the style of living was so different; it really changed the way that I viewed life and how I lived it from then on. I wish you guys the best of luck, and make sure you don’t take one minute for granted. It is a great opportunity that will stay with you forever. I hope that you take away some good ideas to slow down life a little bit at home, and then tell me how to do it myself!

Can’t wait to hear all about your trip when you return! Take awesome pictures, too!

Hi Unai,

I miss you so much Unai. I like you bike – it sounds really cool. I want a bike like that one day! I can’t believe you can do all that stuff with your bike. Maybe I can go to Spain with you some time?
We have been playing Chess at school. Maybe I can teach you how to play when you come back.
I need to go to school now – write again soon. It is fun to see pictures of you and hear what you are doing in Spain.

Hi Deb! I was on the first CofC spring-semester trip to Trujillo in 1997 (I think), and I miss it so much. That was the happiest time in my life. I would love to be back in touch with my host family there: Marivi y Jose Sanchez. They have two daughters, Victoria y Paula, and they live at 25 Guadalupe (if I recall correctly). If you happen to run into them, PLEASE tell them “hola” and “que os echo de menos”! Have fun!

Thanks for the message Unai and all of the funny stories. We thought the crazy guy in your class was funny. We are learning about fish and sharks at ECDC. We got some new Nascars- Carl Edwards, Jimmy Johnson, Juan Pablo Montoya, Danny Hamlin, Ryan Newman. Kyle Bush won the race yesterday. Olin went to the Aquarium with his class. We got some new Star Wars figures- we like to play Star Wars too!!! Talk with you later.
