If your message is personal in nature or requests personal or private information to be shared please reply directly to the sender of the posting. We also have many new subscribers with students starting this fall. There will be lots of questions about moving in, residence life, meal plans, safety, etc. as parents prepare their student to be a part of Cougar Nation! Be patient and understanding and recall the time when you were just beginning the journey with your student. We appreciate the knowledgeable answers from our all of our parents! Also remember you can unsubscribe and return to the listserv as many times as you want if you need a summer break. Just go to www.cofc.edu/parents to unsubscribe and subscribe again when you are ready. Thanks to everyone for subscribing and happy posting!

Calendars:

All calendars for the semester (academic, registration, exam schedule) as well as breaks and holidays can be found on the Registrar’s website at: http://registrar.cofc.edu/calendars/index.php

Fall 2012 Course Registration:

Registration Entry date for fall 2012 is based on earned hours (see calendar when your student can register): http://registrar.cofc.edu/calendars/entrytimes.php. Students enroll based on their earned credit hours at the end of the fall 2011 semester. Registration opens at 8:00 am on the opening registration day for each group. NOTE: If a student has a registration hold on their record they will not be able to register for classes until they have taken the appropriate action for the hold to be removed.

Parking Services: parkingservices@cofc.edu

Although the parking services website states applications will be available online on April 9, 2012 there have been some unavoidable delays in getting the application up and running. Parking Services will be emailing all enrolled students when the application is available and we will post this to the parent listserv. We thank you for your patience. If your currently enrolled student does not have at least 30 credit hours he or she would not be able to apply for parking until his grades are posted 5/8/12 at noon.  You can find this information in the student parking information under the heading Fall 2012.  Once the application is available your student should contact parking services if there are any problems applying. This way if there is a technical glitch with the application Parking Services will be aware of the issue and may take action to resolve the problem.  You may contact the Office of Parking Services at 843.953.7834 or parkingservices@cofc.edu for answers to questions concerning parking on the College of Charleston campus.

Course Evaluations:

Every semester CofC students have the opportunity to evaluate each of their courses and professors. These evaluations are used by department chairs and deans. Students receive emails about completing the course evaluations and are encouraged to complete them by logging in to MyCharleston. The Course-Instructor Evaluations will be open for completion through Tuesday, April 24, reading day.  As an incentive, students who complete Course-Instructor Evaluations for all of their courses will be entered into a drawing.  Continuing students whose names are drawn will receive priority registration in the upcoming semester.  Graduating students whose names are drawn may receive an extra graduation ticket.

Final Spring 2012 Transcripts:

Transcripts with Spring 2012 Grades and Degrees will be available on May 16, 2012. You must select ‘Hold for Grades’ or ‘Hold For Degrees’ if you wish to have Spring 2012 Grades and Degrees included on any transcript ordered prior to the 16th

May 2012 Graduation:

The senior class website (http://www.cofc.edu/seniorinfo/index.php) has been updated with future meetings, rehearsal information and more opportunities to win extra tickets.  Students should check out the Senior Class Events page and Rehearsal page for chances to win extra tickets.

The May ceremonies take place outdoors in our beautiful and historic Cistern Yard. There are two ceremonies – one in the morning and one in the afternoon of the same day. Because of the large number of graduates who participate, tickets are required for guest admission. Each graduation candidate will be eligible to receive 4 tickets for their guests who wish to join them in the Cistern Yard. Additional tickets are only available on a limited basis by raffle at several senior events that take place throughout the year. Contact your senior class officers for more information. Details (including dates/times) about the May ceremony can be found on the Senior Information Website during the spring term.

Summer 2012 Orientation registration: http://orientation.cofc.edu/index.php

All new students must attend a two-day orientation session during the summer. Information regarding the summer orientation sessions for new students is mailed out beginning in March to students who have paid their tuition deposit. Students may register for orientation by logging on to their MyCharleston account, selecting the academic services tab and going to the orientation box in the first column.  Students will need to refer to the questions in the orientation registration booklet (white booklet) before logging in to register for orientation. It is also helpful to refer to the FYE Academic Guide (red booklet) when selecting FYE courses. Students will enroll in fall coursework including FYE during orientation.

Family Orientation: http://orientation.cofc.edu/orientation/family-orientation.php

The Family Orientation is held at the same time as New Student Orientation. This program gives family members an introduction to campus resources, opportunities to ask questions and meet others and a chance to see our beautiful campus. Students can register family members to attend family orientation during their own registration for orientation. Family orientation is not mandatory but parents are highly encouraged to attend. The fee is $25.00 per family member. If your student does not register you for the event you may email orientat@cofc.edu to register.

Family Weekend September 28-30:

The Office of Student Life looks forward to welcoming you to campus September 28-30, 2012 for Family Weekend!  Please mark these dates on your calendar and visit http://familyweekend.cofc.edu/ on a regular basis for updates and additional information.  Online registration for Family Weekend will begin in early August.  Reminders will be sent to the listserv and a schedule of events will be mailed to families of first-year students. The weekend will include a variety of programs and events designed to highlight the history, culture and beauty of the College, the city of Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry.
