IMPORTANT DATES:

ACADEMIC PLANNING:

GRADES: Undergraduate Academic Services: http://undergrad.cofc.edu/

Students enrolled at the College of Charleston must earn a minimum grade point average (GPA) to avoid being placed on academic probation. These requirements are on a sliding scale based upon the total number of credit hours earned by the student.

Credits Earned GPA Required
0-19 1.50
20-59 1.80
60 and up 2.0

NOTE: Provisionally admitted freshmen must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 by the end of their first year to remain at the College of Charleston. Provisional students should contact Page Keller kellerp@cofc.edu if they have questions.

If a student’s cumulative GPA at the end of any semester meets the minimum requirement as listed above, but is below 2.0, then the student will be placed on academic warning. If a student’s cumulative GPA at the end of any semester is less than minimum listed above they will be placed on academic probation. If you have questions about probation, dismissal, or withdrawing from the College of Charleston email Undergraduate Academic Services at undergrad@cofc.edu.

Students may run their own degree audit using DegreeWorks!

DegreeWorks is a web based degree audit application and academic advisement tool that provides a clear and convenient method for students and advisors to track degree progress.

Information about the First-Year Experience (FYE) program and course descriptions can be found at www.cofc.edu/fye. All new students with less than one full year of college experience are required to complete FYE during the fall or spring semester of their first year. Students only take one FYE (either a first–year seminar or learning community) during the academic year. This is a part of their general education requirements. For FYE questions email fye@cofc.edu or call New Student Programs at 843-953-2017.

Summer Orientation starts in June!

Orientation Information can be found at: http://orientation.cofc.edu/orientation/student-orientation.php

The Office of New Student Programs provides 10 two-day summer orientations for new students and their family. If you have an incoming student attending the College of Charleston this fall we ask that parents let your student complete the online orientation registration thru MyCharleston. The orientation registration form includes several questions that the student will need to answer such as information about prior coursework, college course selection, and First-Year Experience interest. If you have orientation questions email orientat@cofc.edu or call 843-953-2017.

Family Orientation:

Family members can attend orientation with your student this summer. A family orientation is offered during all ten of the summer orientation dates. The fee is $25.00 per family member. Students can register family members to attend Family Orientation when they register online. However, if your student did not include any family members when they registered for orientation just email orientat@cofc.edu with your student’s full name and CWID and we will add you!  The family orientation is highly evaluated and we encourage parents to attend if possible.
