College of Charleston Orientation Has Begun

The orientation interns had a great time meeting the first group of students from the Class of 2013 and their families. We hope the students and families learned more about the college and all it has to offer to students and their life of discovery.

For students and parents coming to the upcoming sessions, you can find directions to campus on our website. Check-in is between 7:30 and 8:15 am in the Cougar Mall. Cougar Mall is the area between Maybank Hall and the Robert Scott Small building with an entrance off Calhoun street. Look for the signs and orientation interns who will be able to provide directions.

If you have any questions about orientation, please feel free to email orientat@cofc.edu.

Orientation Schedules and Student Email

The countdown to the first orientation is ON! We are excited to meet the students and families we have been working with all spring.

To help you be prepared for orientation, you should be checking your College of Charleston email account. Admitted students will find their College of Charleston email account (known as the Edisto account) information, including password, at Cougar Trail (https://cougartrail.cofc.edu/). If you need to reset your pin, follow the instructions at the bottom of the page.

The College of Charleston faculty and staff use the campus email system to communicate with students. Due to student privacy concerns, faculty and staff may not answer emails from accounts other than the official campus email account. Students can forward their email to personal accounts but should send messages from their official College of Charleston email. The contact information for forwarding email can be found at https://cougartrail.cofc.edu/.

All new students can access their email address through the Cougar Trail system. The email account can be accessed from any computer through the WebMail link. The address is https://cougartrail.cofc.edu/

Information for first-time users can be found at the http://www.cofc.edu/~orientat/documents/Webmail_Tutorial.pdf.

You can get a sneak peak at the orientation schedules at http://www.cofc.edu/~orientat/documents/Webmail_Tutorial.pdf

If you have any questions, please feel free to email orientat@cofc.edu.

Where to stay during Orientation?

It is great to have so many students and families signed up for orientation.  It is a busy time with graduation, end of year award ceremonies and finishing up at other schools (if you are transferring). We are busy here stuffing packets, organizing the student group fair and cutting name tags.

New students and their families might not have thought about where they plan to stay during orientation.  The travel information section of the orientation webpage has great resources for you.  Information about staying on campus, staying in downtown Charleston and even airline information.

If you have any questions about orientation, please feel free to email orientat@cofc.edu.

Orientation Time Is Near

As the rest of the campus winds down for the school year, the Office of New Student Programs is getting geared up for orientation. The orientation interns will start working in the office in May on signs, schedules and a multitude of other projects to prepare for orientation. They will have training for a week in June and then the first orientation is June 15-16. The first orientation came up on my College of Charleston Twitter feed last night and I got excited for orientation to begin!

If you want a sneak peak at our orientation programs, check out the video that our wonderful marketing department shot last year of all our orientation activities.

For students and families who have signed up for orientation, you should be receiving the student information booklet and the family information booklet. If you want to stay on campus during orientation, please complete the orientation housing form and sent it in with the payment to the Office of Residence Life and Housing.

Check out the Fall 2009 New Student calendar to help you make sure you aren’t missing any important deadlines or activities.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email orientat@cofc.edu.
