Episode 9 – Professor Kameelah Martin and The Lemonade Reader

Nota bene: This podcast is made exclusively for the College of Charleston community.

Professor Kameelah Martin is the co-editor and co-author of a new collection of essays called The Lemonade Reader, which has become the Urtext of academic conversations inspired by Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter’s visual album Lemonade.I was privileged to sit with Professor Martin recently and talk about The Lemonade Reader, how it came to be, and how her studies in “the lore cycle of the conjure woman as an archetype in literature and visual texts” set the tone for the publication itself (back cover).

Below is a discussion assignment professors should feel free to use in classes to supplement listening to the cast.
