10/22 Dr. Cynthia Lowenthal, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, first hand account of her experience after Katrina and the devastation to colleges there. Also, a discussion of how the Dean’s office works.

10/27 Frank Alsheimer, Science Operations Officer at the Charleston National Weather Service Office, lecture on the meteorology prior to and during Katrina.

11/5 Experiencing the surge of Katrina through video

11/10 Lecture and discussion on the effect on the history, culture and economy of areas struck by hurricanes.  Also, lecture on the effects hurricanes have on trees.

11/12 Video “Trouble the Water” and discussion thereof highlight the social aspects of Katrina

11/17 Andy Fairey, Chief Operating Officer, Charleston Water Systems, speaking of the impact of hurricanes like Katrina on city water systems

11/19 Prof. Ana Oprisan, Physics and Astronomy Department, describes her ordeal while living in New Orleans during Katrina.

11/24 Work on papers; meet at the Writing Lab
