So you want to be a Cougar?

So Here’s the Deal

Dear Audience,

I know what you’re thinking, “Did she die? Was she abducted by aliens? Was she fired?” No, my fellow interneters, I’ve merely been a huge McSlacker Muffin pretty much this entire semester in every area possible. And it’s high-time I kick myself into gear. I am formally apologizing for the lack of posts and the ridiculous silence on the blogfront. But no more, my friends! Starting right now, the KGB is back in business. I hereby vow to post something of interest every Sunday afternoon or evening. No ifs, ands, or buts.

CofC was part of the “most interesting colleges” list in Newsweek this year, which means campuslife needs to reach the masses immediately. And it needs to reach them through little ol’ me through little ol’ KGB.

Signing off for now,

K-money

History of Summer

Well, kiddies, it has been far too long, I fear, since my last post. I took a summer course during the Summer II Session, here in Charleston, and was required to move into my BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW HOUSE for the month of July. Now, I probably should have written a post BEFORE I actually completed the class, but I wanted to give the lowdown, not a prediction.

So here I am again, after a grueling hiatus, to inform my avid readers of the wonders of a summer semester. The actual class was actually quite uneventful and blase, which was no surprise because it was a simple-dimple History general requirement. However, the professor requires you to work with a group the ENTIRE semester [I HATE group work], and it forced me to meet some of the coolest people on the planet. Overused cliche hitting right about…now: “Life is like picking a group of classmates, you never know whatchyer gonna get.”

Ahem. Now that THAT’s over with, what is it like taking a course during the times of frollick and joyous sun? Perhaps it was just the way my class was run, but it was completely laidback. Sure, getting up to go to school at 9am for a month of your summer can be a little bit of pain, but it is only one class. After you’re already up and out by 11:30, it’s the perfect time to head to the beach to sand off the rigors of learning. After two hours of class, I had the whole day ahead of me in one of the coolest little cities on the east coast. With limited homework, Summer is the time to actually explore Charleston during the day, not just club-crawl during the night as many people do during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Now, don’t get me wrong, though homework is “limited” because of the whole uno class thing, you still have your work cut out for you. Because the class is only 1 month long, the courseload for an entire regular semester must be condensed dramatically. Deadlines happen every single day so even though there’s only one assignment per class period, you MUST get it done the day it is assigned or it’s going to be too late.

And to end this little diddy, I’ve decided to show you pictures of two of my roommates and my new puppy romping around Marion Square. I’ve decided to show you these because they hate it when I take pictures of them.

Back in Town

After I completed my exams in early May, I fled Charleston saddled with great relief. I had had enough of the caffeine powered all-nighters and the windy windy WINDY streets. It was time for me to go home, and I thankfully drove away from the sunny city.

But, as luck would have it, my roomie and I had to make a trip back to Charleston this past weekend to start setting up things on the new house. Yes! We finally got a new house! And what a steal, I tell you. Not a duplex, but a whole house, with a backyard and relatively close to campus.

Anyway, once I was back, I realized I actually missed the area. I missed drinking hot coffee in the sun, while the breeze from the harbor rolls through the town. I missed all the locals looking tan and fabulous with beachy hair and sandy surfboards, roaming St. Philip street–I also missed the tourists looking lobster-like and lost. I missed the archaic melded into the modern.

And even though I was reluctant to go with Allison, I’m glad that I did because I got to buy myself the best birthday present ever!! This past year, a new Mac store popped up on King Street, and there’s just something about the all glass entryway that leads into a flourescently lit minimalist long, white room that makes people gravitate to it like moths to the flame. But on this particular occasion, I had a real excuse to go in because Allison’s laptop needed fixin’. While Allison endured the Mac-techie’s shmoozy attempts to hit on her, I browsed the aisles. Then there it was! My brand new Bamboo Fun, just waiting for my uneconomical hands to take it so I did.

The Bamboo Fun is a Wacom drawing tablet, and if you’re not familiar with what it does, then I took it upon myself to draw a few things for you.

Unfortunately, Wordpress must hate funny pictures, and so will not allow me to upload any of my miraculous drawings [yes, I HAVE tried every file type known to man].

OOOKAY! I think I’ve got it now. Check these babies out!

My first drawing using the tablet!

Whoa.

Whoa.

Then I tried a face...I'll get the knack of it someday.

Done and DONE!

So finals are finally over for me!!! I took my last one [Russianshootmeintheface] this morning at 8am. No, I have not slept yet, thanks for asking :D I went to Bruegger’s Bagels on King Street because I was actually awake when it opened, and treated myself to a tasty egg and cheese sesame heaven. I promptly went to the cute Starbucks on Calhoun [it used to be a carriage house!], ate my bagel, and bought a piping hot cup of coffee from the people who know my name now. Pumped full of caffeine and absolutely no sleep, I headed to Russian and aced that bad boy. Done and DONE!

Now, instead of sleeping like I should, I am addicted to reordering Dinosaur Comics! What is the pickle is that, you say! Well, take a look here.

Try it! It’s amazingly funny and understandable. Here are some more that I composed:

Alien Love?

Adventures!

Boys and Girls

Cooties

Sexuality 1

Sexuality 2

A LIE!

SUDDENLY!

CofC Flash Rave

So the Addlestone Library has this open circular area right smack-bang in the middle, and it extends up into 3 floors. Looks beautiful, but really serves no purpose other than for tour groups to stand in it and gawk at CofC students studying. But then, our brilliant SGA staff came up with a MUCH better solution to this vacuous space last semester, during exam week.

What better way to fill an empty hole, but with dancing people? There is none, I say. So in the midst of exams last December, when students are tired, cranky, and pulling all-nighters in the library 3 days straight, CofC held an amazing flash rave. What’s a flash rave, you say? Well, take a look at this spectacular footage and see for yourself.

And we’re doing it again this year!! Tonight at 12:00am, in the midst of exams. Hopefully, our beloved SGA will continue to make this a tradition :]

Oh, and just so you have a comparison, take a look at the ugly shambles of Clemson University’s “rave.” Quite repugnant.
