About

The Department of Italian Studies at the College of Charleston in South Carolina proposes to organize a Film Festival centered on Italian Films of the South. Charleston is one of the most prominent cultural centers of the southern United States, shares with the south of Italy common social, cultural and historic ties.  The Italian influence on the development of Charleston is particularly lively due to the establishment over thirty years ago of the Spoleto Festival USA – born from the concept of Giancarlo Menotti to celebrate the artistic excellence of two worlds in Italy and the US – as a cultural exchange between “due mondi”.

The Italian Film Festival at the College of Charleston is in its fifth edition. The recurring success of this annual event is based on growing public interest and the support of local Italian based companies and support from the stellar restaurants and world class chefs that have made Charleston an unrivaled culinary destination.
