IT Service Desk Spring Break Hours

The College of Charleston IT Service Desk Education Center Atrium and Lightsey Center 2nd floor walk-up locations will be closed Monday, March 16, 2020 through Friday, March 20, 2020. The Addlestone Library walk-up location will be operating on a modified schedule and will close daily at 6:00 pm Monday, March 16, 2020 through Thursday, March 19, 2020. Normal hours will resume on Monday, March 23. The Bell 525 walk-up location and IT Service Desk phone, chat and email will observe normal hours of operation.

Spring Break Cyber Safety Tips

Headed off campus for Spring Break? Here are some cyber safety tips for keeping personal information safe while traveling.

– Beware of connecting to fake public networks and turn off Wi-Fi when not in use.
– Avoid using public Wi-Fi networks to conduct personal business, bank, or shop online.
– Turn on Find My Phone to track and remotely erase data on lost or stolen devices.
– Passcode-protect mobile devices and set lock to activate after a few minutes of inactivity.
– Make sure anti-virus software is up-to-date and running on all devices.

 

Microsoft OneDrive and Teams Learning Sessions

[Faculty and Staff Learning Sessions] Microsoft OneDrive provides faculty, staff, and students 1 TB of cloud-based storage for College files. Using OneDrive, instead of your local hard drive, allows you to access work or projects from anywhere, at any time, using any device. In these one-hour trainings, IT will share best practices and fundamentals of the application like uploading, creating a new file, sharing, navigating, and more. Bring your device and follow along with us as we explore OneDrive. Faculty and staff can RSVP to this post or email Teena Ham at hamtl@cofc.edu.

The Division of Information Technology is excited to announce the opening of a new IT Service Desk location on the second floor of the Lightsey Center. Beginning Monday, March 2 the location will be open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As with all of our locations across campus, students, faculty, and staff will be able to receive assistance with computer problems, account issues, email access, connecting to wireless, and more. Watch this video to learn more https://youtu.be/n3PpdmPFes0.

In our continued efforts to strengthen account security, the Division of Information Technology has implemented two important changes to passwords. These changes apply to, but are not limited to, MyCharleston, Microsoft O365, and Google accounts.

  • Password expiration has been extended. You will now only be prompted to change your password every 450 days.
  • The maximum password length is now 99 characters, giving you the opportunity to use a long passphrase (a series of random words or a sentence).

MyAnalytics Learning Opportunities

[Training Opportunities] Microsoft MyAnalytics uses data-driven insights to help you create better work habits. The app lets you explore your work patterns and suggests ways to work smarter, like setting aside focus time on your calendar. With help from the MyAnalytics dashboard and weekly email digest, the app gives you the power back to control your time while at work. Think of it as a “fitbit” for work. Join one of our online training sessions this month (January 22 from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. and January 28 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.) to learn more about the productivity application. The College of Charleston IT Service Desk will be closed December 24, December 25, December 31, and January 1. The IT Service Desk will be operating in a limited capacity December 21 – 23 and December 26 – 30, and will only be monitoring chat at http://help.cofc.edu and email ITServicedesk@cofc.edu. The IT Service Desk will not be available via telephone on these days. Normal hours will resume on Thursday, January 2, 2020.

[REMINDER] The College of Charleston IT Service Desk will be closed on Thursday, November 28. On Friday, November 29 and Saturday, November 30 the IT Service Desk will be operating in a limited capacity and will only be monitoring chat help.cofc.edu and email itservicedesk@cofc.edu. The IT Service Desk will not be available via phone on these days. Normal hours will resume Sunday, December 1.
