[Faculty and Staff] Reminder that you can request that multi-factor authentication (MFA) be enabled for your account now, instead of waiting until you are reached later this summer. MFA adds a vital layer of security needed to protect your information and enhances the security of systems at the College from ever increasing instances of phishing attempts and password hacks.

The College of Charleston’s Office 365, including faculty and staff email, is experiencing an unscheduled disruption in service. Information Technology is aware of the situation and working to restore service.

 

The Division of Information Technology would like to introduce the new IT Service Desk. Beginning August 2019, all services previously offered by the IT Helpdesk, Student Computing Support, and Telephone Services will now be provided by one unified team. With the IT Service Desk, students, faculty, and staff will be able to access services by chat, email, phone or at any of our three walk-up locations (Bell Building, Addlestone Library, and Education Center).

[Students] Have you visited the new Student Instructional Technology Services blog? This resource, formerly known as the Student Computing Support (SCS) blog, has been refreshed with the latest information for students on various technology topics. Posts include updates on technology changes, computer recommendations, free software available, printing instructions, and technology tutorials.

Students can even visit blogs.cofc.edu/sits/ to schedule an appointment with Student Instructional Technology Services for one-on-one assistance with technology tools used in the classroom.

 

Akindi: IT’S HERE! IT’S FINALLY HERE!

Akindi

We’d like to officially welcome Akindi, the Scantron alternative, to the College of Charleston. What makes Akindi better than Scantron?

  • It easily integrates with OAKS classlist and the OAKS grade book.
  • You don’t need to buy Scantron sheets, you can print them yourself.
  • You can scan the bubble sheets from any networked scanner on campus.
  • It’s faster, easier, and more convenient than Scantron!

If you want to use it with OAKS – View the “Getting Started with Akindi through Brightspace – D2L” tutorials.

If you DO NOT want to use it with OAKS – View the “Using Akindi outside of OAKS” knowledge base article, then view the “Akindi” tutorials.

Within the next week, a diagram will be posted over many departmental printers/scanners that outlines how you can scan your bubble sheets to Akindi. If you don’t know how to use the Email feature on your printer you can contact the Helpdesk for assistance or put in a service ticket at https://cofc.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=14834.

Upcoming OAKS Login Changes

In collaboration with our OAKS vendor, Desire2Learn(D2L), the authentication method for logging into OAKS will be updated the afternoon of July 5, 2019.  OAKS authentication will now be managed by our Microsoft Azure/Office365 environment. This change is being made in a continuing effort to bring authentication continuity across College systems and to improve our security profile.
