National Cybersecurity Awareness Month: Protecting Your Household

Did you know that October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month? We often give advice for staying safe online while at work. However, many best practices can be (and should be) applied at home too. Here are a few tips for protecting your household against cyber threats:

– Make sure your computer has the latest security software, web browser and operating system installed. This is the best defense against viruses and malware. Your cell phone and tablet should be kept up to date as well.

– Smart appliances and connected devices, such as thermostats and security cameras, should also be kept up to date with the latest security software. Without it, these helpful items could pose a risk for hackers accessing your network and information.

– Think before posting about yourself and others on social media networks and websites. Consider what a post reveals, who might see it and how it might affect you and others now and in the future.

Stay tuned all month as we share important information from the National Cyber Security Alliance. Are you #CyberAware? Learn more at https://staysafeonline.org/
