College is Updating to Internet Explorer 11

After January 12, 2016, only the most recent version of Internet Explorer available for a supported operating system will receive technical support and security updates from Microsoft. For example, anyone using Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 9, or Internet Explorer 10 should migrate to Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) to continue receiving security updates and technical support. The College previously held back the automatic update to IE 11 because several enterprise systems did not offer full support for this browser version. Recent updates and Microsoft’s revised browser support policy have ended the necessity to prevent automatic updates to IE 11.

On Wednesday, January 20, 2016 the College will promote the automatic update of Internet Explorer to IE 11. The update will be made available through your regular Windows updates. All previous versions of IE will no longer be supported.

For those users that require a legacy version of Internet Explorer, IE 11 will include a feature called Enterprise Mode. Enterprise Mode lets websites render using a modified browser configuration that’s designed to emulate either Windows Internet Explorer 7 or Windows Internet Explorer 8, avoiding the common compatibility problems associated with web apps written and tested on older versions of Internet Explorer. To enable Enterprise Mode for a specific site, select it from the Tools menu.
