This year’s judge for poetry was Erica Dawson, author of the collections The Small Blades Hurt and Big-Eyed Afraid. Her poems have appeared in Barrow Street, Birmingham Poetry Review, Blackbird, Literary Imagination, Unsplendid, Virginia Quarterly Review, and other journals, and have been included in Best American Poetry 2008, 2012, and 2015. She teaches at the University of Tampa.

Nathan Oates served as fiction judge. His debut collection of short stories, The Empty House, won the 2012 Spokane Prize and was published in 2014; his stories have appeared in the Antioch Review, The Missouri Review, Witness and in Best American Mystery Stories 2008, Best American Mystery Stories 2012, and Forty Stories. He teaches at Seton Hall.

The $500 prizes are given annually to the best work of fiction and best poem by a student currently enrolled in the MFA program in Creative Writing at the College, and are sponsored by Crazyhorse.
