The two weeks in Genoa have been nonstop – filled with exploration of the city’s historic center, nearby cities and villages, and lots of foccacia bread.
Today the group split off taking advantage of our last free day in the city. A few went and leisurely strolled by their favorite sites one last time, enjoying a gelato along the way and picking up some last minute souvenirs.
Others in our group decided to spend the day hiking the trails in between the forts located in the hills surrounding Genoa. They started at Forte Sperone and ended at Forte Diamante, seeing three other forts along the way before hiking back down. The trip was approximately 10 miles round trip, and ended with over 25,000 steps taken.
Dinner was also a free for all, allowing the groups to either eat in the city or cook one of their favorite Italian meals for themselves at the Villa.
The past two weeks have been filled with invaluable learning experiences; not only architecturally but culturally. From documentation of the early 20th century villa which housed our group, to exploring churches dating back centuries, the city of Genoa has captivated us with its mesmerizing beauty and history.
Ciao!
