A Rooftop with a View

In the morning, the groups continued to work on their projects in AutoCAD and took some last minute measurements. We had a meeting right before lunch to discuss our plans for Cinque Terre, which we will visit on Friday.  In the afternoon, after spending some more time on our projects, we went to the museums located on Via Garibaldi. The museums are housed within three palazzos (palaces): Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Bianco, and Palazzo Tursi. The palazzos was donated by Maria Brignole-Sale De Ferrari, Duchess of Galliera in the late nineteenth century and contain the Strada Nuova art galleries. The collections that we viewed within the museums included artwork ranging from the 15th to 19th centuries.

Besides observing the art in the museums, we also experienced the many frescoes and ornamentation on the floors, walls, and ceilings. Palazzo Rosso had the most ornate and colorful detailed rooms, while the rooms in Palazzo Bianco are primarily white. We climbed to the top of the roof of Palazzo Rosso where we took in the beautiful view of the city surrounding us. In between Palazzo Bianco and Palazzo Tursi, we were able to view the remaining foundations of a Gothic church, San Francesco. 13220074_1318473791500135_1809542385_nIMG_6497
After spending time at the museums, several students (Kirsten, Jen B., Cassie, and myself) presented their selected piazzas within the city core. We began at Piazza del Ferro, just below Via Garibaldi and then Jen B. led us south to Piazza delle Vigne, where we had visited the church in this particular piazza the first day of the trip. Cassie guided us to her piazza, Piazza San Bernado and then I took the group to Piazza Renato Negri.
Once we explored each of the piazzas, half of the group made a pit stop at a gelateria in Piazza delle Erbe before ascending the many steps to the villa. We enjoyed dinner at the villa, where Christina, the villa chef, had prepared for us a delicious meal of fish and pasta. We continued to work on our projects before heading to bed to rest up for another day of exploring the city.
