Publish Your Creative Work in Sanctuary, A National Honors Journal

Calling all Honors creatives! Submit your artistic work!

Sanctuary is a national literary and arts journal highlighting creative work by Honors students from across the southeastern U.S. The publication is seeking poems, stories, and visual art created by Honors College students.

Submissions can be made online, with an application deadline of April 14, 2023.

MUSC Research Opportunity in the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology

Dr. Naohiro Yamaguchi’s lab in the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology is looking for a student intern to perform research on calcium signaling.

This project focuses on the regulatory mechanisms of calcium release channels, called ryanodine receptors, and the functional consequence of their dysfunctional activities that leads to human muscle diseases.

Rising Sophomores and Juniors who are interested in conducting their independent research for their Bachelor’s Essay or Honors Immersed and can stay during the summer are particularly preferred.

DC Semester Program Spring 2024

The College of Charleston’s Washington, DC Semester Program for Democracy, Culture, and the Arts is an academic program beginning in the SPRING of 2024–application deadline will be early in the Fall term of 2023. The program Application and Checklist can be found here. 

DCSP is a program for students who want to experience working in Washington in a structured and supervised way, tapping the dynamic institutions of the Washington Metropolitan Area to provide major experiential learning opportunities. The academic components of the program and the internship coordination are provided by CofC professors. DCSP participants will receive up to 3 credits for the mandatory DCSP seminar, 6 credits for their full-time internship, and are free to fill their remaining credits with either a research project or online coursework at CofC.

Classes are to be held in the University of California Washington Center in the heart of the city. Students live in shared 2-bedroom apartments in downtown Washington, DC.

Study at the American University of Ciaro

Study at the American University of Cairo. This program is supported by a generous scholarship from the School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs.

Applications for this exchange program are currently open for the Fall 2023 semester or Fall 2023-Spring 2024

Funding (up to $7,000 per semester; see attached flyer) is available for study in Cairo, Egypt, at the American University of Cairo.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Are you looking for an exciting post-graduation opportunity? Would you like to live abroad for a year?

Through its variety of grants, the Fulbright program offers students the opportunity to work, study, and live in another country for up to one year after graduation in one of the over 140 Fulbright partner countries. A Fulbright can be a great way to begin graduate study, continue research, or pursue a meaningful gap year experience.

Students pursuing a Fulbright must have completed their undergraduate degree by the start of the Fulbright grant period and select one of the opportunities listed below.

English Teaching Assistantship: Teach English to students ranging in age from pre-k to college while engaging with the local community.

Open Study: Pursue a master’s degree in one of the many available one-year degree programs, including through a number of field-specific grants.

Open Research: Propose a year-long research project on the topic of your choice in any of the Fulbright countries or pursue one of the field-specific grants in the Arts, Business, or STEM fields.

The Borgen Project Internship

The Borgen Project believes that the leaders of the most powerful nation on earth, the U.S., should be doing more to address global poverty.

The Borgen Project is an innovative national campaign that works with U.S. leaders to improve their response to the global poverty crisis and make poverty a focus of U.S. foreign policy.

The Borgen Project has several internship and volunteer openings that may be of interest to students. Internships range from Political Affairs, HR, PR/Marketing, Writing, and Journalism.

All internship and volunteer programs provide experience in advocacy, mobilizing, and fundraising, coupled with real industry exposure and an insight into the nonprofit world.

Internship Location: The programs are based online, so can be undertaken from any location.

Internship Start Dates: We have new programs starting every month, as such applications can be received at any time, through our website. Interns choose the start date that is most appropriate for them.

Mentoring and Supervision: All of our internships have a designated manager who will ensure that our interns are offered an induction to the program and then support throughout the internship with regular online catch-up calls, training/discussion sessions, and are a point of contact for any questions or concerns throughout the program.

Internships are unpaid, but options to receive academic credit are available.

$5000 Scholarship for Black Students Pursuing a Career in the Tech Industry

Reason One, a Charleston-based digital agency, is offering a $5000 scholarship to support Black/African American/African-descent women in technology and digital-related programs.

The Program: The Reason One Mentorship & Scholarship Program awards scholarship and mentorship opportunities to Black students who are enrolled or recently accepted in a digital-related program, pursuing or with plans to pursue a career in the tech industry.

The Award: Three students will receive a $5,000 scholarship towards application fees, textbooks, and other expenses, plus one year of mentorship and professional development support from Reason One team members

  • Go Deeper: This program is explicitly focused on removing the systemic, financial, and socio-economic barriers that Black students encounter in tech career paths.
