Volvo Internships Available for Wide Variety of Disciplines

Volvo currently has two open internship positions available in Charleston for current students. One of these opportunities is aimed towards Computer Science and Data Science students while the other is aimed more towards School of Business Students.

Warranty Intern: The Warranty Intern position will be working with ongoing and new warranty related projects utilizing research, organization, editing, and formatting skills while collaborating with the warranty team.  Some data analytics may be involved using Excel and Power BI. Southern Region Intern: The Southern Region Intern will have an opportunity to learn the full breadth of Volvo’s field sales operations across Volvo team’s departments in New Car, Pre-Owned/Used, Aftersales/Customer Service, Vehicle Distribution, Marketing, and Network Development. The intern will be part of Volvo’s exciting transformation journey towards electrification, digitalization, and premium customer experience. Students Invited to Partake in National Survey of Student Engagement

All first-year students, seniors, and transfer students are invited to partake in the National Survey of Student Engagement. The survey only takes 10-15 minutes and students who participate are entered into a drawing for prizes. ($10 Starbucks gift card)

This survey will help the College of Charleston improve the student experience for all current and future College of Charleston students.

Capgemini Consulting Position

Capgemini is currently accepting applications for a Consulting Position located in Columbia, South Carolina.

All Computer Science, Data Science, and Information Management Systems majors are encouraged to apply. There is no deadline to apply, but students are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later.

Research Specialist Position Available at MUSC

Dr. Christine B. Kern’s lab in the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology at MUSC is looking for students interested in working as Research Specialists.

This is a salaried position intended for individuals taking a gap year between their undergraduate education and medical school.

Selected applicants will perform generalized and specialized cell and molecular biology techniques, such as cloning, immunohistochemistry, PAGE electrophoresis, Western blots, as well as other duties.

Training from the PI will be provided if these techniques are new to the applicant. Analyze experimental results using appropriate software; help prepare experimental results for presentation and publication.

CofC Spring 2022 Career Fair

The College of Charleston will hold its Spring Career & Internship Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at the TD Arena (310 Meeting St.).

More than 100 employers are expected to attend, including several businesses from the 6th annual German-American Business Summit, which will take place that morning in the Stern Student Center at 71 George St.

The next day, March 30, the Career Center will be coordinating one-on-one interviews on the CofC campus.

Organizations including BMW, Capgemini, the FBI, Seabrook Island Club, KION, Nucor, Enterprise and Benefitfocus will be recruiting for a variety of full-time, part-time and internship positions.

Students are encouraged to visit the Career Center during drop-in hours (Mondays–Thursdays, 2–4 p.m.) to have their résumés critiqued in advance of the fair.

Friends of MSF at CofC Virtual Event

On Thursday, March 24th at 7 pm, Friends of MSF will have a Tanya Morshed, a speaker from MSF, presenting via zoom.

Tanya Morshed is an experienced social worker who previously served as a Mental Health Activity Manager in the field with MSF; Tanya Morshed also participated in a small response for Afghan refugees during her assignment in Tajikistan.

MUSC Research Opportunity in the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology

Dr. Naohiro Yamaguchi’s lab in the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology is looking for a student intern to perform research for calcium signaling. This project focuses on the regulatory mechanisms of calcium release channels, called ryanodine receptors, and the functional consequence of their dysfunctional activities that leads to human muscle diseases.

Students will be participating in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry experiments including tissue cell cultures, mutant DNA construction and expression, and functional assay for the mutant Ca2+ channel activity.

No previous lab experience is necessary as all training will be provided onsite. Selected students will work 10 hours per week during the semester and more during the summer.

Rising Sophomores and Juniors who are interested in conducting their independent research for their Bachelor’s Essay and Honors Immersed are particularly preferred.

Beyond the Filter: Telling Stories with Photographs of Family and Community

Next Tuesday, March 22nd from 12:30 to 1:45 the College Libraries and the Office of Institutional Diversity will be putting on Beyond the Filter: Telling Stories with Photographs of Family and Community.

Students are invited to bring their favorite photos – digital or print – and share stories with one another. Through sharing photographs of family and loved ones, participants will contribute and discover stories about themselves and one another revealing roots, connections, and provocative parallels that surprise and engage us in community.

In addition to sharing photographs, scholars and community members will discuss the power of images for storytelling, identity, and representation in our public memory. Specimens of historic photographs including daguerreotypes, tintypes, cabinet cards, and stereoviews will also be on display.
