May Non Credit LSAT Class

What: The class will meet four evenings per week, Monday through Thursday, May 8 through June 1, from 7:30-9:00 pm (7:30-10:00 on Tuesdays for full-length prep testing). Classes will be held on the main campus downtown, and books will be provided at the first session. The class is designed to prepare you for the June or October LSAT.  Regular registration for the June 12 LSAT must be completed by next Wednesday, April 26. Late registration is available through May 3. Registration for the prep class will remain  open until the first class.

Fulbright and Fall Awards Info Sessions

What are you doing after graduation? What: As the newly elected Executive Council of SGA plans for this upcoming year, we are beginning our search to fill the roles of our Executive Board. In the next few weeks, we will be selecting 19 passionate, reliable and well-rounded students to fill the following positions in the Student Government Association: Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Summer Council Chair, 4 Executive Initiative Directors, Programming Director, Communication Director, and 10 Cabinet Positions  – Academic Affairs Liaison – Campus Accessibility Liaison – Campus Diversity Liaison – Campus Recreation Liaison – Greek Life Liaison – LGBTQ Liaison – Off-Campus Resident Liaison – Sustainability Liaison – Transfer Student Liaison – Veteran Affairs Liaison

Please note you must be a full-time undergraduate student to apply for these positions, however, you do NOT have to be a Senator or hold a current position in SGA. The responsibilities of each position are as follows:

Chief of Staff:

· Maintain the bylaws of the Student Government Association

· Maintain attendance records for the Student Government Association

· Organize and direct the weekly Executive Board meeting · Oversee and attend committee meetings

· Serve as a general aid to the Executive Council of the Student Government Association

· Prior Student Government experience is preferred

· Must be available Tuesdays from 3:15 PM until 7:00 PM and Thursdays 3:30 PM until 5:00 PM

Deputy Chief of Staff:

· Take minutes at weekly Executive Board and Executive Council meetings

· Assist in the planning of various Student Government Association events

· Document all legislation passed by the Student Government Association Senate

· Work closely with the Chief of Staff on accomplishing tasks designated by Executive Council

· Must be available Tuesdays from 3:15 PM until 7:00 PM and Thursdays 3:30 PM until 5:00 PM

Summer Council Chair:

· Oversee the Summer Council of Student Government members present in Charleston during the summer

· Coordinate with the Summer Council to ensure Student Government is represented at all orientation sessions

· Must reside in Charleston for the summer of 2017 Executive Initiative Directors:

· Manage a team of 5-8 Senators

· Organize and direct a weekly committee meeting

· Creatively find ways to improve the student experience by bringing real changes to campus and solving critical student concerns

· Must be available Thursdays 3:30 PM until 5:00 PM

Executive Initiative Directors:

· Manage a team of 5-8 Senators

· Organize and direct a weekly committee meeting

· Creatively find ways to improve the student experience by bringing real changes to campus and solving critical student concerns

· Must be available Thursdays 3:30 PM until 5:00 PM

Programming Director:

· Responsible for organizing and directing recurrent Student Government events such as the Bike Auction or the State of the Student Body, as well as any additional events the Student Government Association decides to sponsor

· Tasked with overseeing the sustainability of ongoing Student Government initiatives, such as the umbrella share program and the project to provide feminine hygiene products in CofC bathrooms.

· Must be flexible with time in order to work on projects when called to do so

Communications Director:

· Responsible for all communications efforts of the Student Government

· Develops a branding and marketing plan for Student Government projects and initiatives

· Looking for individuals with interest in at least one, but preferably several, of the following fields: website design, branding/marketing, social media, videography/photography

· Please turn in an example of work related to the field you are interested in

Cabinet Positions:

· Represent a specific part of campus to enhance Student Government’s ability to relay information to administration

· Be an active member/advocate for the community you are representing and have an interest/expertise in the subject matter

· Have an interest in actively gathering student opinions on matters related to your position

· Be able to attend a Cabinet meeting every two weeks

Academic Affairs Liaison:

· Attend 2 faculty committee meetings as a student member

· Promote the student voice to faculty through avenues such as Faculty Senate

· Must be flexible with schedule and able to meet with the President when asked to do so

Diversity Liaison:

· Act as a liaison between the Student Government Association and all departments, students, and community members that bring forth ideas pertaining to diversity and inclusion

· Must be flexible with schedule and able to meet with the President when asked to do so

Greek Liaison:

· Maintain communication between Fraternity and Sorority Life councils and Student Government Association on a regular basis

· Must be flexible with schedule and able to meet with the President when asked to do so

Public Relations Liaison:

· Promote all Student Government Association events and initiatives

· Maintain the Student Government Association website and social media accounts

· Must be flexible with schedule and able to meet with the President when asked to do so

Dedication of Statue Honoring Senator Ernest F. Hollings

What: A statue honoring United States Senator Ernest F. “Fritz” Hollings will be dedicated. The keynote speaker for the program will be former Vice President Joe Biden, who served in the US Senate with Senator Hollings for more than three decades.

When: Monday, April 17, 2017 at 2 p.m.

Where: J. Waties Waring Judicial Center garden, situated at the Four Corners of Law (corner of Meeting and Broad streets)

Who: Zev Friedman is a milpa farmer and agro-ecological researcher, ecovillage resident, permaculture consultant with Living Systems Design, and inter-generational educator and curriculum designer with the School of Integrated Living.
