Honors College Welcomes New Staff

The Honors College has welcomed several new team members in the past year. Let’s get to know them!

Bridget Alaniva
Associate Director of Honors College Admissions, Honors College

Background: I am originally from Plymouth, Michigan, in the Lower Peninsula. I attended college at Michigan Technological University in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, majoring in communication, culture and media with minors in historical studies and media production (graduated 2018). After college, I moved down to Charlotte, North Carolina, to work for UNC Charlotte as the coordinator of student outreach and engagement for its School of Social Work. In January 2023, I moved to Charleston.

Interests: I am a big Michigan sports fan; I love watching the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, University of Michigan and Michigan Tech sports teams. I love wildlife and being in the outdoors. I try to go hiking and camping in my spare time on weekends. I love going to museums and learning about history in different ways. I also have an area in the house where I can work on my paintings, as painting is a hobby I have enjoyed for a long time. My family and friends in Michigan are also very important to me, so I try to go back and visit (or have them visit) as much as possible. I enjoy traveling, so I don’t mind the distance too much.

Looking Forward: I am looking forward to meeting new people in Charleston and at CofC. I can’t wait to help support the Honors College and be part of that team. It’s exciting to be working at a college that is so close and connected to the city that it’s in.

Cristina Landis
Assistant Director of Student Success, Honors College

Background: I have worked [as a temporary employee] at the College for the past 22 years as an academic advisor, adjunct faculty member in theatre and the Honors College, and as the learning strategies program director.

Interests: I’m a member of the core ensemble of PURE Theatre now in our 20th season. I’m an actor, director and movement coach.

Looking Forward: I’m excited to be continuing to collaborate with my accomplished colleagues all across the institution.

Sydney Conrad
Interim Assistant Director of Student Engagement, Honors College

Background: I have split my life living between Virginia and New York. I moved to Charleston in 2014 to be closer to family that had moved south. Prior to coming to the College I worked at a local nonprofit, My Sister’s House, as the director of education and training.

Interests: I love being active and spending time outside. My husband and I love to go to the beach with our young daughters (Beatrice and Cleo). I also enjoy running, yoga and playing soccer.

Looking Forward: I am most looking forward to supporting students in their efforts to identify their passions, get connected to local organizations and creating lifelong advocates of a stronger community!
