Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What is GSA? The Graduate Student Association at the College of Charleston is primarily responsible for acting as a liaison between graduate students, the graduate school, and other departments on campus and within the Charleston community. GSA represents graduate student interests at important meetings, conducts annual reviews, plans social and community outreach activities specifically for graduate students, and manages sub-organization budgets.
  •  Who can join GSA? All graduate students are encouraged to attend GSA meetings. Most students join GSA as a senator for the sub-organization affiliated with their program of study. Our member organizations include: MPASA, MESSA, MBGSA, MBAA, MCSA, GEA, GHS, GHPC, GEO, Urban Studies, Child Life, and Students of Color
  • How can I register my organization with GSA? All documents and forms for sub-organization registration are found under the About GSA  – Documents and Forms tab at the top of this page.
  • How do I submit my organization’s budget to GSA for approval? Important forms for sub-organization treasurers may be located under the About GSA – Documents and Forms tab at the top of this page.
  • When does GSA meet? The Graduate Student Association meets at least three times per semester, usually once monthly on a Friday afternoon. Dates are determined at the beginning of each academic term and posted on the website. Additional social and community outreach activities occur outside of regularly scheduled meetings, so members are encouraged to check the blogroll regularly for events and updates.   • What does the Executive Board do? The executives of the GSA have varied responsibilities including: leading monthly general assembly meetings, maintaining budgets and records, planning semester programs, and reviewing grant applications.   • What are GSA Committees? Senators from each sub-organization will be asked to join a general assembly committee at the beginning of each academic year. More information about committees may be found under the GSA Committees tab at the top of this page.
  • What are travel and research grants? Each semester, the GSA awards travel and research grants to graduate students in order to assist with funding conference attendance, research projects, or other study costs.   • Where can I apply for travel and research grants? All applications, documents, and forms are located under the Travel & Research Grants – Applications and Forms tab at the top of this page.
