Welcome new graduate students,
On behalf of the Graduate Student Association (GSA), I would like to inform you of a few things available to you throughout your time at the College of Charleston. But fi rst a little bit about the GSA. The GSA’s primarygoal is to facilitate the relationship between graduate students and the College of Charleston community.
In addition, we bring unity to the graduate students as a whole in the form of social activities and student outreach.
The executive council board for 2009-2010:
President: Rachel Collins
Vice President: Jose Goncalves
Secretary: Hilary Lentz
Treasurer: Lindsey Graham
Meetings are the first Friday of the month at 5:45 pm on the 4th Floor of the Stern Center on George St. The first meeting for the 2009-2010 school year will be September 4th.
There are two senators from each graduate program. If you are interested in the opportunity to participate, please contact your program director to see if there are spots open. If the spots have already been fi lled, feel free to participate in the monthly meetings, events or even a committee (you do not have to be a senator to be on a committee). Elections for the following year’s offi cers are held in the spring, and you must have participated in the GSA for at least one semester to be eligible.
If you would like to know about graduate student happenings, make sure you sign up for the list-serv. You will get emails from the chair of the Social Activities and Student Outreach Committee informing you of upcoming events that are for the graduate student community. To register for the list serve is simple. You can use whichever email server you prefer. Just do the following: Send an email to LISTSERV@listserv.cofc.edu with no subject and the following in the body of the email:
subscribe GSAevents <your first name> <your last name>
Good luck with your upcoming fi rst year as a graduate student and remember, do not hesitate to contact your program’s senators, any of the GSA executive board offi cers, or attend any of the monthly meetings if you have any concerns or comments.
Sincerely,
Bryan Danson
Social Activities and Student Outreach Committee Chair
