A Day with a GA – Abby Giordano

Abby Giordano is the GA for our series A Day with a GA this week! Abby is a second year student in the M.A. English program. She works in the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards. What does she do on the job? Keep reading to find out!

Office or Department you work for: The Office of Nationally Competitive Awards

What are your assistantship responsibilities? I am responsible for our social media outreach. I also meet and correspond with students regarding award applications, specifically answering questions they may have about certain components of their applications. Otherwise, I pretty much assist Dr. Collins-Frohlich in whatever way she needs!

What do you like most about your position? I enjoy working with Dr. Collins-Frohlich a lot! I have learned a lot of transferable skills in my position and feel that the knowledge I have gained is going to be applicable in my post-grad life.

What question do you get asked most and what’s your typical answer? Students always ask where they should start and I always tell them to start by making an appointment with our office!

What’s your favorite location on campus and why? I enjoy Rivers Green, especially when it’s not too hot.

What personal and/or professional accomplishment are you most proud of? Getting into grad school! I am really proud of receiving the Simon F. Gallagher Fellowship.

Name a creative work (book, movie, performance, etc.) you enjoyed recently and why. I am currently watching a Korean Drama called Eve that I am really enjoying! It’s a really compelling revenge drama with lots of twists and turns.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Charleston? I love going on walks to and by the Battery with my friends.

Favorite Restaurant in Charleston. I LOVE Hanks.

Describe your perfect day. Any day that’s rainy and with lots of books around.
