Weekend Wrap-Up Part 1

As promised, I’m posting a weekend wrap-up – a special segment for March. I guess it’s partially in honor of spring break and partially because March is that middle month of the semester.

Around My House

My weekend was filled with fun and excitement. That is, if you consider things like oil changes, taxes, and FAFSA to be fun and exciting. Or maybe you enjoy doing a move-out walk through with previous landlords. No? I’m not a big fan of any of those things either, but they are all things that had to be done. At least I can say it was a productive weekend if nothing else.

Around Charleston

I’m happy to report that the Charleston area had a lot of opportunities for an unforgettable weekend. Here’s a quick rundown of 2 things that happened in Charleston since Friday.

foodandwine The annual Charleston Wine + Food Festival concluded yesterday, March 3. A celebration of Charleston’s culinary excellence and renowned culture, the festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Some profits from the event benefit scholarship programs for the culinary and hospitality workplace. steelmagnolias

From Midtown Productions‘ website:

“Filled with hilarious Southern repartee, “Steel Magnolias” blooms once
again on a Midtown stage, starring six of the region’s finest actresses,
who play the lovable and zany women of Chinquapin Parish, Louisiana.
The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon, where all the ladies who are
“anybody” come to have their hair done.  Helped by her eager new
assistant, Annelle, the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses
shampoos and free advice to the town’s earthy curmudgeon, Ouiser; the
former mayor’s wife, Clairee, and the head of the mental health clinic,
M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby, is about to marry a “Louisiana good
ole boy.”  Filled with hilarious dialogue and revealing verbal
collisions, “Steel Magnolias” has been called “the funniest play ever to
make you cry” for a good reason!”

The stellar ensemble cast includes: Emily Giant as “Shelby”, Leslie
Vicary as “M’Lynn”, Susie Hallatt as “Truvy”, Hope Grayson as “Clairee”,
Susan Lovell as “Ouiser”, and Joanna Cretella as “Annelle”.

Sad you missed it? There’s more chances to go. See the show dates here.
