SOAR 5K

This Saturday, July 9th, is an excellent opportunity to both get some exercise and to be an example for people with special needs. The SOAR (Special Olympics Annual Run) race was created last year with a small group of athletes and coaches who challenged each other to a 5K run on Folly Beach. The race inspired the athletes to have courage, determination and strength to cross the finish line, while inspiring the partners to be advocates of respect, inclusion and Special Olympics. This year, they are inviting community members to join in the fun and hard work.

The race begins at 8:00 a.m., so you will avoid the worst of the heat. When the race is over, you can enjoy a day at the beach as well as heading over to some great restaurants, like my favorite, Taco Boy. Registration is $30 for adults, which may seem a bit steep, but all funds raised with benefit the Special Olympics South Carolina. Registration includes race entry, a t-shirt, and a charitable donation to Special Olympics. So, come on out and run a little bit, spend a day at the beach, be an example of courage and determination, and show your support to the Lowcountry Special Olympics community.
