What are Germany’s responsibilities and the challenges facing Germany today? Consul General Sander will address the shortcomings and horrors of Germany’s past, before commenting on the 25 years since the fall of the Wall.

Screening of the film Wolf (2013)

The film reconstructs the life and legacy of Rabbi Benjamin Murmelstein, director of the Terezin ghetto, through conversations between Wolf, the rabbi’s son and his psychoanalyst. Terezin was a “city built for Jews” under the auspices of the Third Reich for propaganda purposes. In his role as ghetto director, Murmelstein was seen as a collaborator and was tried after the war. The Q and A with the filmmaker Claudio Giovannesi will be moderated by Ted Rosengarten.

Roundtable Discussion on Divided Germany

The panel will discuss this monumental event in terms of its place in history and offer first-hand accounts of how Germany’s division has had a personal impact on their lives.  In addition, the discussion will highlight historical memory from post-Soviet economic and political perspectives.
