General Moseley (the 18th Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force) will discuss the global strategic landscape and the challenges in our increasingly complex, dynamic, uncertain environment. General Moseley will also discuss the impacts of unprecedented change in technology and the exponential growth in access to information across a wide range of economic, cultural and military activities.

BOOK TALK: Dirty Secrets, Dirty War: The Exile of Robert J. Cox
Join Robert Cox as he speaks about Dirty Secrets, Dirty War: The Exile of Robert Cox. This book highlights the story of a man dedicated to protecting the freedom of the press and to protecting his family during the “Dirty War” in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 1976-1983, when an estimated 30,000 people “disappeared.” Award winning journalist, Robert J. Cox, did what few others were willing to do: he told the truth about what was happening.

BOOKTALK: Peg Eastman and John White
Peg Eastman will discuss how the rediscovery of correspondence, memorabilia and other forgotten treasures from her own family led her to donate those materials to the College of Charleston, a process that has since resulted in the publication of two books and significant degree of scholarly interest. Dr. John White will discuss these and other recent additions to the College of Charleston’s archives.

LECTURE: Celebrating Coffee – An Evening with John Saunders, founder of Kudu Coffee
From its discovery on ancient Ethiopian hillside to cafes around the world, coffee has dominated the economics, politics and social structures of entire countries and is the second most valuable exported legal commodity on earth. John Saunders, founder of the popular Kudu Coffee shop in downtown Charleston, will discuss the many facets of this tasty bean and how it has become the vehicle to get to know people from around the world.

LECTURE: What Buildings Can Reveal – An Evening with Gene Waddell
Buildings can reveal a great deal even when there is no documentation. College of Charleston archivist, Gene Waddell, will introduce a program, which helps to uncover how a building was designed, constructed, and renovated based on physical evidence provided by the building itself. His principal example will be the Pantheon in Rome, which is also the subject of a recently published book.

This evening of wine and music, part of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival and co-presented with the Friends of the Library, will provide guests with a unique, interactive opportunity to match wine varietals with music.
