Philip Nel to Speak on Dr. Seuss and Race

catAs part of the English Department’s Visiting Scholar Series, we are pleased to welcome Dr. Philip Nel, who will be giving a talk entitled “Was the Cat in the Hat Black? Seuss and Race is the 1950s.” Dr. Nel is a scholar of children’s literature and Professor of English at Kansas State University. He is author of several books on children’s literature, including Dr. Seuss: American Icon (Continuum, 2004) and, more recently, Crockett Johnson and Ruth Krauss: How an Unlikely Couple Found Love, Dodged the FBI, and Transformed Children’s Literature (University Press of Mississippi, 2012). Check out the event flyer for more info, and please join ius in RSS 235 on Monday, March 18 @ 6PM.
