I haven’t come up with anything solid so far, but I have ideas, some more feasible than others. I thought about International Students, immigrant workers, or non-christian and eastern religious groups on campus or in the community.

Two potential ideas I have so far;
1. Researching those who choose to enter military service straight out of high school instead of trying to take advantage of ROTC type programs, specifically the ideas and motivations to do so. I know of some who have done this but am concerned with IRB regulations of active military and the distances involved in actually interviewing.
2. Looking into what it is like being involved with political activism as a career. A friend of mine is highly involved with A.N.S.W.E.R. coalition and was actually on the last presidential ballot in 14 states as vice president for the socialist party. I really know nothing about this side of his life and being as far from a socialist as one could be it would be interesting to interview one.
So, yeah

i would like to talk to people about their ideas about wellness and environmental health: how are the decisions you make in your personal life concerning wellness impacted by the current range of environmental issues?
i am not sure who i will choose as my population group. i could talk to college students. i thought about talking to people involved in csa- for me food ways are a clear link.

I’m doing a project on the “countercuisine,” and to complement that I’d like to talk to either the producers or consumers at the local farmer’s markets or the organic groceries like World Market or Whole Foods. I’m interested in people’s ideology about buying or selling organic produce, their motivations, their perceived benefits, etc. The consumers could be a bit more overwhelming, and I may have less access to the grocery store employees. But the farmers at the markets are a smaller community with more autonomy so I’m leaning toward them. Thoughts?

I am not sure exactly what I want to do for my project ideas but I have a couple of ideas.
- Private schools in Charleston… the families, the children, the cost, teaching methods, ect.
- Indian Culture… I think it would be really interesting to work with a group of people that run an Indian restaurant around town and understand their culture and food a little bit better.
- The Contemporary Art scene in Charleston… I am really leaning towards this topic. I have a couple of friends in town that are local contemporary artists in town. I think I would really enjoy this topic.

1. I am tentatively interested in looking at the dynamics of an ESL classroom in Charleston and the experience of immigrants in this area. How does learning English impact the lives of the students, etc.
2. Looking at the relationship of people with their dogs. Exclusive doggy parks, etc.

I’ve lived in Charleston for twenty years and have participated in many different organizations that have required numerous hours spent downtown. Through out the years I have aquired a strong interest in the lives and culture of the homeless. I’ve spent countless hours conversing with people who are homeless. I intend on getting information from people who also help the homeless (employees at Crisis Ministries). Im hoping that I will be able to do this project but there is the chance that my informants wont want to participate in my research as well as others who work with the homeless. Also another problem that may arise would be my seafety. Somehow Ill figure it out and if anyone has any suggestions or ideas please feel free to comment.

I am working with Devyn and we want to do a project about childcare but have not narrowed down our topic yet. We are thinking about observing children in several different school environments, public (urban and rural) and private.
