Exam Study Hacks from Seniors

It’s the most wonderful time of year – final exams! Maybe this is your first round of college exams or you are a seasoned veteran. Regardless, this time of year can be extremely stressful. To provide you with some peace of mind, we asked a couple seniors for their best advice when it comes to studying for final exams.

Good luck, Cougars! We believe in you!

“My biggest piece of advice for final exam studying is to avoid undue stress. Find where (and with whom) you can focus on your work without any extra stress. If your house is the most relaxing place to work, it’s okay for you to study there. Just because everyone else is in the library until all hours of the night does NOT mean you have to be.” – Ashton Lancaster ’20

“Eating more junk food than normal during exams will only make you feel worse. Try to think about the nutritional content of what you’re eating and fuel your brain with whole foods!” – Ashton ’20

“Don’t procrastinate and create a study guide. You can always ask your professors for help!” – Paola Gonzalez Macias ’20

Where is your favorite place to study on campus?

“I love to study in the Multicultural Center during exam week. It’s quiet, has computers/printers, natural light, and even a Keurig for your coffee fix! They also have water fountains and occasional sweet treats.” – Ashton ’20

“The second-floor rooms in the Jewish building or the second floor in the Education center are some of my go-to places to study on campus.” – Paola ’20

What are some of your go-to activities to relieve stress during exams?

“Remember that almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes – even you. Take study breaks, relax a little, and acknowledge how much you DO know. It’s too easy to get caught up in how much you don’t know (yet) for your exams. Deep breaths never hurt either.” – Ashton ’20

“I go to my boxing class when I’m stressed, or I will watch an episode on Netflix. Also, ice cream makes any situation better.” – Paola ’20

And lastly, some words of encouragement to those taking exams for the first time,

“You will do great! Just breathe and focus on one exam at a time.” – Paola ’20
