EDFS 345: Introduction to the Education of Exceptional Children and Youth

Quick Overview

This course uses an a-synchronous online learning format to provide an introduction to programs and issues related to working with children and youth who have exceptionalities.  Attention is also given to recent research and legal and ethical issues involving students with exceptionalities and their educational programs.  In brief, key objectives include:

(A) Describing the different categorical classifications of exceptional children; and legislative regulations.

(B) Describing the service delivery systems for students with disabilities as well as the referral, evaluation, and IEP processes for exceptional students.

(C) Describing the instructional strategies used for students with disabilities in early childhood, elementary, middle, and secondary classrooms.

(D) Defining and discussing the major issues in providing an appropriate education for students with disabilities including contemporary issues, trends, and family concerns and educational challenges.

The following tutorial will help guide students  through syllabus expectations and course navigation.  Once the instructions at the close of this module are complete, I will release the password for you to access the rest of the class content.
