Our 4/5K children incubated a dozen mail-order eggs last October and (alas) only one survived the hatching process; “Jack-o-lantern” has been lovingly tended to and nurtured by the children since then, and has been living with Ms. Jane, Bill, and Edward with periodic visits to school so the children could keep up with her progress. We knew that Ms. Jodie the 3K teacher at Memminger already had a chicken, “Blanche” who had lost her other 3 friends one by one (Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia) over the past several years and was lonesome. So the two teachers got together and we all decided with the approval of the children in both classes to invite Jack-o-lantern to come live with Blanche. This week, the packing up and moving process commenced, and both the chickens and children were successfully introduced to one another. The Memminger children made a wonderful welcome sign and we loved the name of JOL’s new home (“Coup de Ville). Everyone agreed it was a fun experience for all. The ECDC children will continue to visit to help with feeding and care, and getting to know their new friends in Ms. Jodie’s class. P1100947 P1100955 P1100954
