Hackathon Happenings

Our Computer Science students have traveled far and wide to claim hackathon victories this academic year. We are so proud of you all! Here is a sampling of what our talented students have been up to:

Giuliana Tosi and Luke McGuire (both Freshmen CS majors) took first place at Hack Soda City in Columbia, SC. The November 2018 hackathon was sponsored by Capgemini. The duo created a security system called DAP (Detect, Alert, Prevent) using Python, Microsoft Azure, and Twilio, where possible danger is alerted from a security camera.

Graduate Student Gabrielle Cozart and her team triumphed at the 2018 SacHacks in Sacramento, California winning first place for best use of the Smartcar API. The team built SmartMaintain, an application centered around predictive car maintenance using environment and location-based data.

Locally, Computer Science Student Ambassador Rex Ferrer and his team participated in the Chucktown Floods Hackathon in August 2018. Team “Knee Deep” got first place at this CofC CS department co-sponsored event.
