Position Description:  The University of Connecticut seeks an experienced Social Media Manager to oversee the UConn Health social accounts and develop digital media content and campaigns for targeted audiences, including students, faculty, and staff, healthcare professionals, patients, and other University constituents, in support of the University’s brand and reputation across all UConn Health level social media platforms. The Social Media Manager will administer the University’s social media guidelines and serve as a resource to social media and marketing managers within the UConn Health community. The successful candidate should demonstrate knowledge of major social media platforms and a passion for keeping up with the ever-changing nature of the medium. The successful candidate will be expected to exercise originality, creativity, and to regularly develop his/her own ideas within the broad guidelines established by the supervisor. Work is varied and requires a sound understanding of the subject matter and target audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for building and maintaining the UConn Health brand in the digital arena through exposure, influence and engagement across all social media platforms at the clinical and institutional level.
  • Implements the institution’s social media strategy, including university guidelines and parameters for all university account users, provide policy guidance, develop and execute campaigns both large and small.
  • Serves as a primary content creator for all UConn Health social media platforms, including development and execution of all social media campaigns and posts, creating relevant social graphics, and taking photos when needed.
  • Gathers relevant data to guide social media strategy and tactical implementation as well as short- and long-term engagement and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with other teams like marketing, customer service, video, and news to ensure brand consistency.
  • Monitor, listen, and respond to followers in a timely manner and monitor customer reviews.
  • Collaborates with other departments within the University and UConn Health to coordinate content and amplify content through shares, retweets, etc. and to guide posting content when a department doesn’t have its own accounts
  • Convenes project work groups, gathers and reviews relevant data to guide social media development and enhance effectiveness, monitors analytics.
  • Supports university-wide social media strategy needs and performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in new media or social media strategy, implementation and measurement with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Twitter, etc.) and how they can be deployed in different scenarios.
  • Superior writing, communication, interpersonal, diplomatic and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be actively engaged in a number of projects simultaneously, meet and enforce deadlines, take initiative, work independently to carry out complex assignments.
  • Knowledge of graphic design and awareness of graphic needs to complement content and platform.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when activities fall outside normal working hours.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience in, or strong knowledge of, the field of higher education or healthcare
  • Basic knowledge of video editing software
  • More than two years of managing a brand social account
