CofC Sustainability Social Media Internship

The College of Charleston’s Sustainability Literacy Institute (SLI) is hiring —

Position: Sustainability Literacy Institute (SLI) Social Media and Outreach Student Intern 

Supervisors: Graduate Assistant for Outreach and Communication; Sustainability Literacy Institute Outreach Fellow; when appropriate, SLI Administrative Assistant and SLI Director 

Overall Job Purpose: The Social Media and Outreach Intern is responsible for (1) assisting the Graduate Assistant and Outreach Fellow in the management and development of all social media accounts for the Sustainability Literacy Institute (2) developing marketing content that helps the SLI increase visibility on social media through items such as: followers, subscribers, likes, comments, shares, views, etc (3) developing strategies for increasing the SLI’s social media presence and impact with key audiences (4) working alongside a graduate assistant and SLI Administrative Assistant to develop new forms of outreach and engagement in the physical and digital world.  It is expected that the intern will work between 3 and 8 hours per week, depending on need and availability. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Content 
  • Assists in the production of high-quality social media posts for all platforms operated by the SLI (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Yammer, and Youtube). Ensures all content adheres to organizational standards and rules as well as marketing pillars. Communicates regularly with an appropriate team member and SLI leadership to ensure social media content reflects important organizational activities. Assists the SLI in the response to all questions and comments from social media followers. 
  • Scheduling 
  • Assists in the development of a social media content calendar for planning campaigns. Analyzes content reach and engagement to determine best days/times to reach social media followers. 
  • Audience 
  • Researches and identifies new social media followers for the SLI. Works alongside Graduate Assistant to continually devise and implement strategies for growing audiences across platforms.  

Required Qualifications: 

The successful candidate must believe in the core values of the SLI, and be driven by the mission and a commitment to quality, performance, and outcomes.  

  • CofC student (undergraduate or graduate) 
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms 
  • Excellent writing and visual communication skills 
  • Excellent spelling and grammar skills 
  • Maintain a mature and professional image both digitally and in person 
  • The ability to work from the SLI office on Glebe Street 

Desired Qualifications Include: 

  • Experience managing social media for a business or organization 
  • Strong relationship builder and communicator with experience engaging community partners 
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills 
  • Demonstrates integrity, strives for excellence in work, and collaborates with team to reach new levels of effectiveness and programmatic impact.
