Charleston Style & Design publication is looking for contributing writers and essayists.


Charleston Style and Design invites you to submit an original, unpublished personal essay of no more than 650 words for possible publication in our quarterly department, Reflections.

Your essay should present an idea, concept or experience that you think would be of interest to our readers.

For consideration, send your essay (via e-mail only) and a short two-sentence biography to and place the words “personal essay” in the subject line.


The magazine is looking for writers with a clear, vivid style and experience writing about design and lifestyle topics. Articles range from 300 to 1000 words.

One-page queries, accompanied by clips, are welcome. They should summarize the subject, suggest an angle and explain why the topic is consistent with the magazine’s mission. Please do not send any materials you want returned.

Put your name, address, e-mail address, phone number and final word count at top right of the first page of text. And don’t forget your short one-line bio at the end.

The Becket Agency Seeks PR Interns

The Becket Agency internship program consists of employees working closely with interns to help develop their PR skills. Each day interns are in the office one featured topic will be discussed for 30 minutes to 1 hour. The remaining time will be dedicated to completing projects.


Topics discussed include:

  • social media copy writing for businesses
  • press release writing
  • media pitches
  • event planning and execution
  • sponsorships
  • business writing:
  • how to handle bad reviews that stay positive and have a strong chance of winning back the customer
  • how to handle good reviews that contain constructive criticism
  • marketing plans
  • marketing budgets
  • research through surveys
  • sit in and fully participate at our client meetings, creative meetings, and sponsor meetings (if they have an idea or question/comment/concern then they are encouraged to speak up…all of our clients are fully aware of how we do internships)

If interns want to explore deeper into a specific focus they are interested in they have the opportunity to bring their ideas to reality with one of the Becket Agency’s clients.

Opportunities for this include:

  • develop the campaign pitches
  • deliver the 2-3 minute pitch to our client
  • get feedback and approval from us and client
  • then we let them assume the role of project manager (under our supervision)
  • We work with the interns to help them bring their idea to reality:
  • get them press coverage
  • set up sponsorship meetings that they take the lead in
  • they oversee designs
  • help book any entertainment if needed

Journalism Internship Opportunity

The Johns Island News, an online news source for residents of the Charleston suburb of Johns Island, which is planning to launch on January 1, 2017, is offering unpaid internships for upperclassmen journalism and communications students. Interns will serve as part-time reporters covering local events, news stories, politics, sports, profiles on Johns Island residents and business owners, and helping to organize the classified section.


This will be a great opportunity to get hands-on experience as a journalist.

The students must have reliable transportation, a laptop, a flexible schedule, the ability to meet a deadline, and willingness to go the extra mile for a successful story.

The Children’s and Women’s Integrated Center for Clinical Excellence (ICCE) at MUSC is looking for a junior/senior College of Charleston Marketing & Communications Student to assist  with the following:
