Skirt Magazine Contributors

Skirt is seeking local Charleston-area freelance writers, photographers, contributors, and artists to contribute to their monthly print magazine and website. to contribute to our monthly print magazine.

2018 Guidelines for Writers/Artists

WRITERS

 We are looking for experienced writers who can accept assignments for short features and profiles, as well as writers who can pitch story ideas about topics related to women and women’s interests. If you are interested, please email your pitch, a resume, links to published works to submissions@skirt.com.

Skirt also accepts pitches for personal essays. Preference is given to Charleston-area writers. Please send your pitch and a short bio to submissions@skirt.com. If selected, completed essays should be 500-750 words.

ARTISTS

Position: The Event Sales Assistant will work directly with the Event Sales & Marketing Manager at Magnolia Plantation, assisting with upcoming events, sales and marketing projects, and day-to-day office duties.

Responsibilities

Sales

  • Correspondence with new inquiries and booked couples via phone and email

MDRC Firm Seeks Summer Intern (Paid Opportunity)

Are you a rising undergraduate senior with a strong interest in learning about education or social programs, policies, and research? Are you curious how program evaluations can inform public policy? Are you considering graduate education or a career in education policy or public policy? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you may be an ideal candidate for a paid summer internship at MDRC, one of the nation’s premier education and social policy research firms.

The mission of the internship, which is part of the MDRC Gueron Minority Scholars Program (GMSP), is to provide an opportunity for individuals from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the education and social policy research community with an opportunity for professional experience in the field.

The selected summer interns will support multidisciplinary teams to develop and evaluate programs focused on current education and social policy issues. Interns will have the opportunity to support a range of projects within MDRC’s five policy areas: Family Well-Being and Children’s Development; K-12 Education; Postsecondary Education; Low-Wage Workers and Communities; and Youth, Criminal Justice, and Employment.

Responsibilities:

The eight-week paid internship provides the opportunity to work with MDRC teams on a range of organizational, administrative, and analytical tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Assisting with program development and operations activities for MDRC research studies
  • Supporting qualitative research design and, if possible, assisting with field research at local NYC research sites
  • Processing qualitative data
  • Conducting literature reviews
  • Participating in various stages of producing reports, proposals, and other written deliverables
  • Assisting with innovative ways to communicate our findings to practitioners and policymakers
  • Providing general project and management support for project teams, such as taking and synthesizing meeting notes

In addition to these project responsibilities, candidates will participate in regular networking meetings with various MDRC staff to learn more about topic areas of interest and to understand the context of MDRC’s research and policy work. Interns will also have the chance to attend trainings and forums to develop specific skills and knowledge areas.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate student who will be in senior in the 2019-2020 academic year, with a major in public policy, sociology, communications, psychology, or another related field
  • Demonstrated interest in education and social policy issues
  • Basic understanding of research methods
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Comfort working in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Comfort with and interest in learning to use new software and technology
  • Very strong writing and communication skills

PayPal Summer 2019 Internship

Position Summary/Responsibilities:

The Global Risk and Compliance Officer Team (RCO) is the primary point of contact between the Global Governance Risk & Compliance Organization (GGRC) and PayPal’s businesses and functional areas. The RCOs are responsible for working with PayPal’s businesses to develop controls, mitigate risk, conduct the annual Risk Assessment, prepare quarterly reviews, and provide guidance on new product development.

The individual in this role will support the RCO Program Management Team, which assists the RCOs in managing these initiatives holistically, across our Global Organization. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work on special projects with our RCO team, who interface directly with PayPal’s businesses.

Primary responsibilities will include

  • Tracking and reporting of strategic initiatives
  • Partnering with RCOs to ensure timely completion of quarterly goals and objectives
  • Communications with our global team to ensure timely and consistent messaging
  • Partnering with RCOs to assist in business initiatives

Women’s Congressional Policy Institute (WCPI) is seeking a communications/development intern to help implement its comprehensive media and major gifts strategies. The intern will work closely with the staff to implement the organization’s communications and development plans.

Goals

  • Assist Communications Associate with monitoring various social media sites and updating social media with relevant content as appropriate
  • Work with Communications Associate to maintain content on WCPI website, including program-specific video content
  • Update WCPI media list with contacts at key Capitol Hill publications
  • Work with Communications Associate to strengthen program-specific social media pages (e.g., Facebook Fellowship, intern alumni, etc.)
  • Work with Individual Giving Manager to identify potential donors
  • Work with Individual Giving Manager and other staff to develop donor-specific social media campaigns
  • Provide administrative support for Individual Giving Manager as needed

General Summary:

The Category Marketing team works to drive integrated product stories and manage category Go-To-Market programs throughout all fan touch-points. As the category marketing intern, you will help with identifying and executing product storytelling and category marketing opportunities. You will work with key departments to aid in the development of seasonal key initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
