Paid Summer Internships with Post & Courier

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Post and Courier is seeking applications for its paid summer internship program.

We are looking for talented students or very recent graduates to spend 10 weeks working in the Post and Courier newsroom as a temporary full-time reporter, photographer/videographer, page designer/copy editor or digital journalist. We will accept three to four interns and encourage applicants from all walks of life and levels of experience to apply. Candidates should have demonstrated experience producing journalism at either a student or professional media organization.

A growing, independently owned news organization based in beautiful Charleston, S.C., The Post and Courier’s local owners have deep roots in the community and care deeply about this newspaper and its reputation. Interns are paid $10 per hour for a 37.5-hour work week. The typical internship lasts 12 weeks.

Job Description:

  • The Center for Women is a non-profit that serves to educate and advocate so that women in the Charleston community are empowered to achieve personal and professional success. We are looking for a social media intern to assist our team and support our mission. This will be a great opportunity to get valuable experience in social media including (but not limited to) Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. This will involve creating and publishing content, developing brand awareness, generating inbound traffic, customer service, and cultivating leads.
  • Interns should be able to commit to 12-15 hours per week, although there is room for more flexible hours/duration. This internship is unpaid but provides the opportunity to attend all Center for Women events, network with some of the top professionals in Charleston, and be strongly considered for full-time positions after graduation.


  • Engaging with the Center for Women’s online community
  • Creating, scheduling, and publishing content across all social media channels
  • Analyze and report social media results
  • Research and monitor the social media efforts of similar organizations and community partners
  • Coordinating with Development VISTA for online marketing and advertising campaigns
  • Collaborating with staff on projects and assignments

Qualifications – Position Requirements:

  • Must be a student currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program and able to receive college credit for internship hours
  • Provide links to 1-3 social networking profiles to demonstrate interest and knowledge
  • Possesses experience in writing and able to provide two writing samples
  • Skilled in presentation, interpersonal relations, and customer management
  • Performs well in environment that values creativity, flexibility, and variety
  • Exhibits personal qualities, such as open-mindedness, enthusiasm, and adaptability

Phil Noble for SC Governor Seeks Volunteers

The Phil Noble for SC Governor campaign is looking for current students and recent college or law school graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in Democratic politics, or looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience to join our fundraising staff. Prior campaign and fundraising experience is not required.

Responsibilities will include: traveling and working directly with the candidate for governor, organizing and coordinating fundraising events, compiling and analyzing data and research, and developing and implementing strategic plans.

Learning Objectives:

Historic Charleston Foundation (HCF) is seeking 2-3 spring 2018 marketing and communications interns eager to hone their skills and gain resume-building experience in destination marketing. Interns will also assist with the preparation and execution of the annual spring Festival of Houses and Gardens and Charleston Antiques Show which attract over 15,000 guests and 650 volunteers.

Job Description:

  • Assist in writing and editing for multiple media and audiences, and pitch local and national media.
  • Assist with 6-week Festival of Houses and Gardens with responsibilities ranging from substituting for docents in the houses to poster distribution and calendar postings.
  • Assist with volunteer management including data entry, training, benefits and outreach.
  • Assist as needed with editing website and writing blog posts.
  • Assist with strategic social media planning and posting.
  • Proofreading internal and external communications.
  • Photographing Foundation events as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications – Position Requirements:

  • Desire to work hard and to learn
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, specifically Word and Excel, as well as web-based research
  • Flexibility, ability to deal under pressure, quick thinking, and a positive attitude are critical for this function
  • Other desired skills include; exceptional interpersonal skills, solid organizational and time management skills.

Time Requirements:

  • 10-20 hours/week (flexible)
  • Must be willing to support HCF programs outside of normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm)

Work Environment:

  • Interns will be in the office most days, but must also be willing to visit and travel to other HCF locations, off-site venues and also be comfortable working outdoors.
  • Must be willing to work with both the Marketing and Communications and Philanthropy Departments
  • May be required to lift boxes and supplies up to 25lbs.
