The South Carolina Press Association (SCPA) Foundation internship program provides a meaningful, hands-on training experience for students interested in newspaper journalism. Three or more interns are placed each summer at S.C. daily and weekly newspapers, allowing students invaluable real-world training experience. Each internship is 10 weeks and pays $4,000. Internships are open to S.C. college students studying journalism, advertising, or visual communications. Rising juniors and seniors, and recent college graduates are eligible to apply.

The Foundation also awards its premier $3,000 Mundy Scholarship, to a rising college junior or senior interested in pursuing a newspaper career.

The deadline to apply for 2016 scholarships and internships is Friday, March 11 with no extensions given. Interns will be notified of acceptance during early April.

The Medical University of South Carolina’s Office of Public Relations is looking for a highly motivated intern to work with the MUSC News Center team. This is a great opportunity for someone who is comfortable interviewing everyone from surgeons to patients, taking photographs, writing stories and helping the News Center team promote those stories on social media. By the end of the internship, the intern will have several bylined story clips that he or she can use when applying for jobs. Internship candidates should be prepared to stick to a schedule in an environment that includes both helpful feedback and the chance to work independently. The internship is available immediately.

Charleston City Paper is looking for an intern to work in the digital department during spring 2016. This is not purely a writing, marketing, or digital media position, but ideal candidates will have experience in or a desire to learn in each area. The position will be a great opportunity for someone interested in writing, digital publishing, local media, and cultivating online communities.
Duties will include writing, editing, and curating online content at CharlestonCityPaper.com, content management, and social media strategy.

The Fund for American Studies is now accepting applications for the Fall 2016 Capital Semester program in Washington, DC.
Students will earn 12 credits and are guaranteed an internship with a media outlet or communications firm. Please encourage students to apply for the Fall Semester early application deadline of March 1 to receive priority scholarship consideration and a 5% tuition discount.
