Charles Nguyen Named Campus News Managing Editor

Charles Nguyen, a senior communication major from Charleston, S.C., is the managing editor of CisternYard News, the official student campus news source. CisternYard News publishes news, sports, and entertainment content regularly online at Cisternyard.com. CYN also produces “The Yard,” a feature magazine which is printed two times each semester. This take the place of the traditional student newspaper. CisternYard.com is the flagship product of CisternYard Media, the student media office of the College of Charleston. Combining the best content from CisternYard News, CisternYard Radio, and CisternYard Video in one multimedia-friendly place gives students the best access to campus news and entertainment.
CisternYard Media is comprised of four student media organizations and two supporting departments. Each group offers unique ways for students to become involved, meet people from diverse backgrounds and gain practical training in various media.

John E. Alessi, ’98 Named Alumnus of the Year

In 2011, John Alessi co-founded Whip-It Inventions, an eco-friendly products company that launched a multimillion dollar product that sold out on QVC in its first airing. Beginning with three employees and one partner, the company has over $4 million in sales and 19 employees after only one year. Alessi ‘s company recently launched a national television infomercial and has been recognized by the city of Santa Rosa, Florida for its involvement in the community. The community of Milton, Florida has named the company its fastest growing business. Alessi also serves as vice president of sales and director of product development for a luxury skincare line called Shinto Clinical, a line created for model, mogul, Kimora Lee Simmons. John travels between Palm Beach and New York.
Alessi was a double major at the College of Charleston in both communication and Studio Art. He spent ten years establishing himself in the beauty industry gaining respect for his talents in sales, branding and global marketing.
