Preparing for the Career Expo

October 11, 2010

The Fall 2010 Career Fair & Graduate School Expo is coming up next week, so to help get you ready for it, here a few suggestions to follow in your preparations.

1. Do your research. Look at the different companies, organizations and schools coming to the Career Fair on our website and investigate them. What do they do? Where are they located? Are you interested in them?

2. Prepare your resume and bring at least 15-20 copies. By now you should have a well written resume that highlights your experience and achievements. If you do not—write one! Please bring it by the Career Center for the Career Advisor to look at. We love looking at resumes and will enjoy helping you make yours perfect.

*Note: We have Drop-In Hours every weekday afternoon from 1:00-4:00pm. No appointment is required, and this is the perfect opportunity for a 15-20 minute meeting with a Career Center Advisor to look over your resume and provide you with feedback.

3. Dress the Part. Come to the Career Fair in professional dress. You are selling yourself to the different employers and they need to be able to picture you working in their company. See our website for more tips on professional dress.

4. Don’t be shy. The Career Fair is not a time to show your shyness. Be bold and approach the different employers/grad schools because they are not going to just grab you out the crowd. Go introduce yourself, talk about their company/school and talk about yourself.

These were just a few tips to get your started. Also, check out the list of companies/graduate schools already slated to come on the Career Center homepage. Remember, come to the Fall Career Expo & Graduate School Fair and get started on that wonderful new career that is waiting for you.
