With his extensive background in Human Resources, the College welcomes Edward (Ed) Pope as the new Vice President for the Office of Human Resources.

Pope graduated from The Citadel with an undergraduate degree in 1993 and a graduate degree in 1996. After graduation, he served as Employment Manager at The Citadel until 2001. Pope relocated to Columbia soon after to work at the Budget and Control Board’s State Office of Human Resources as a consultant to agencies and higher education institutions, one of which was the College of Charleston. In 2005, he became the Director of Human Resources for the Governor’s Office, a position that he held until his most recent appointment in April 2011, as Director of Human Resources for the Budget and Control Board.

Pope and his wife, Heather, had long-range plans to eventually move back to Charleston. With an interest to return to working in higher education, the unique opportunity at the College was a perfect match. Pope has always been impressed with the people he has encountered at the College over the years. The passion they have for the College inspired him to be a part of the community.

During his time at the College, Pope hopes to see the Office of Human Resources serve as a model for customer service provided to employees and the public. He envisions the office working as a partner with departments to meet their HR needs and remain focused on their mission. Together, he wants the office to work hard to ensure that the College is the premier employer in the Lowcountry.

In his free time, Pope enjoys working in the yard, fishing every chance he gets, and spending time with his wife and their two bird dogs, Rosie (a Visla) and Covey (a German Shorthaired Pointer). Taking Rosie and Covey hiking in the mountains is one of their favorite things to do. Additionally, Pope is an avid runner. He has run several half marathons in recent years and plans on running the Kiawah half marathon this December.
