Welcome to the Fall 2011 semester.
Please utilize resources on campus to help you have a successfull semester.

One resource I would like to highlight is the Center for Student Learning, located on the First Floor of the Addlestone Library. Students may receive tutoring on a walk-in basis (accounting, math, Spanish and French, writing, speaking) or by appointment (subject area tutoring, all other foreign languages). They also offer a series of Study Skill Seminars.

I will try to highlight other resources and give updates about the Study Skill Seminars throughout the semester.

Hope you had a very restful break and are ready to be back, even if mother nature was not ready to start the semester!
Now that we have had the “Snow Day” be aware this from the office of the registrar: “Due to the unanticipated College closing on Monday, the drop/add deadline has been extended to Tuesday, January 18th, at 5:00 pm.”

It is Reading Day! Good Luck on Finals!

Cougar Mall (10:00-2:00)

Study abroad program providers (universities, organizations) from all over the world will attend this fair to promote their program options. The Center for International Education will showcase all College of Charleston programs at this fair.

Here are some important dates to know:

Oct. 11 & 12: Fall Break (no classes)
Oct. 19: Mid Term Grades available in MyCharleston
Oct. 21: Last day for students to withdraw from full semester courses with a grade of “W”.
Nov. 24 – 27: Thanksgiving Holiday (no classes)
Dec. 6: Last day of Classes
Dec. 7: Reading Day (no classes)
Dec. 8 – 15: Final Exams
Dec. 22: Grades Available in MyCharleston

Remember Friday is the last day to change your schedule (Add or Drop Classes).

During the first test of the semester did you say, “Well, I guess I’ll just have to study harder for the next one!” What does it mean to study harder? Wouldn’t it make more sense to study smarter?

Snacks served!

we will discuss ways to study smarter, including Replacing Passive Study Strategies with Active Ones, Creating and Using Study Guides, and Using Study Strategies that Promote Critical Thinking. In addition, we will take note of Specific Steps to Take Before, During, and After the Test. We will apply these strategies to both Objective and Essay Tests.
