I am a teacher and researcher who specializes in developing intelligent assistants that collaborate
with humans to perform creative visual tasks in virtual environments. My most recent project, Story Blocker, is a Web-based virtual 3-D system for exploring cinematography concepts.
My teaching and research complement one another to engage students in creative projects in computer
graphics, artificial intelligence, and interactive multimedia systems. My latest education research efforts have measured the impact of our Computing in the Arts Program to broaden participation in computing and exploring how movies can be used to motivate interest in studying data science.
I enjoy offering outreach activities to attract new generations of diverse students to computing such as William Blanchett who worked in my lab during summer 2014 and is now a Computing in the Arts major and Department Ambassador.
