Name that portrait!

This portrait by William Halsey has been hanging in the Simons Center for years, but who is it of? Can you guess? Answer to come later this summer… We’re hoping to have a label put up so everyone knows this piece of CofC history!

Arts Management Students create Spoleto Today production office

May 18, 2012 · Comments Off

Arts Management students in the “Media and the Arts at Spoleto” Maymester class have been hard at work this week converting Simons room 101 into a production office and recording studio for ETV Radio’s Spoleto Today show!

This semester, we will assist professor Jeanette Guinn in every aspect of producing and creating Spoleto Today– creating a workspace, scheduling interviews, marketing the show through social media, handling technical aspects of the recording process, and much more.

Before 1

Room 101 before we got started- with Arts Management student Alex Pioggia

First, we had to deal with the aftermath of the end-of-semester table setup… We cleared all the tables and chairs and stacked them in a corner. We set up workspaces for everyone on the team.

Stacked tables in our way...

Our setup

Where the tables went

Our desk area- with student Alizey Khan hard at work writing this blog post...

Next, we brought in soundproofing foam and recording equipment and set up our recording booth for radio interviews.

The closet we converted, full of stuff

Our studio, after we set up the recording equipment!

After we added a rug to dampen the sound on the floor

Our pretty little interview space

We noticed  that the notorious squeaky door leading out of Simons that is right next to room 101 was really affecting our recording process… so we put some WD40 on it and it doesn’t squeak any more, 3 squeaking years later. You’re welcome!!

Then we put up a big banner! (Thanks to the Theater Department, particularly Robert Ashley in the Scene Shop, for lending us rugs and ladders)

Arts Management student Dan Heredia, and a ladder that is way too big for this room

Our banner required a slightly smaller ladder to put up

We're all set!

We’re ready to start recording the show on Monday- come visit us in Simons room 101 to see what we’re up to!

Thanks to Kathryn Norton and Donna Dupree for helping us in the setup process.
