Arts Management community gathers to bid farewell to Professor Guinn

Last week current students, alumni, faculty, and friends from across campus gathered in the Hill Gallery of the Cato Building to celebrate Arts Management professor Jeanette Guinn for eight years of teaching at the College of Charleston. Guinn’s role as the Program’s Visiting Associate Professor will come to an end after this semester.

Guests mingled and enjoyed pizza and music from DJ (and CofC alumnus) Collective Disparity. The celebration culminated with a ceremony in which students, alumni, and colleagues shared their memories from Jeanette’s class and highlighted the ways she has impacted their lives both in and out of the classroom. Professor Guinn was then presented with a gift from the Arts Management Program, an album of learning cards designed by current and former students. Learning cards have long been an integral part of Guinn’s widely popular Understanding Creativity course, where students end each class by writing down a daily tidbit of discovered knowledge.

Guinn is one of the Charleston art community’s most notable INFPs. In addition, she also serves as producer, writer, and host of Arts Daily, a media project that informs public radio listeners about the many arts events happening throughout the state. Before coming to the College she worked for 25 years at the South Carolina Arts Commission in a variety of integral roles. She has served on panels for the National Endowment for the Arts, South Arts, and many state arts agencies.

The Arts Management Program would like to thanks Professor Guinn for all she’s done for our students over the past eight years. Her presence will be sorely missed.
