Locally Charleston has two different afterschool programs that offer not only a sports component, but also provide tutoring, mentoring, and/or service opportunities off the field. Cusabo Nation Lacrosse not only offers children the chance to join a lacrosse team, but Cusabo Scholars offer support to players through weekly meetings for informal mentoring, tutoring, and in order to provide students with an afterschool snack. Chucktown Squash provides children with the opportunity to travel and compete in squash matches while also receiving tutoring and homework help, as well as promoting civic engagement by offering service learning opportunities with other charitable organizations in Charleston.
