Spice Things Up in your Afterschool Program!

New Activities to Introduce in Afterschool Programs

If you feel like your afterschool program is in need of a change or a new activity, to spice things up, why not try one of these activities others have introduced with success:

  • Yoga
    • Jessica Stein, owner and director of Kauai Power Yoga believes yoga helps builds student’s confidence and self-esteem within a supportive environment. • Gardening
    • Mark Minster at Rose-Hulman Institute introduced a garden for elementary students K-5 that help take care of the plants and then bring home produce to their families. Not only does this encourage healthier eating, but gives the students a sense of responsibility and accomplishment. Read the full story HERE.
    • Grant opportunity
  • Intergenerational Walk
    • Bridging the gap between old and young provides benefits for all participants. Elders can teach today’s youth, sharing their own life experiences while finding a new sense of purpose within their greater community. Splitting kids up into groups with an elder leader on a walk gives them a chance to bond over fun activities such as a scavenger hunt, being prompted at different locations to discuss different questions, follow a story book, or walk while listening to music from different decades.
