WINGS for Kids After School Program

WINGS for kids is a non-profit organization that provides an after school program to at-risk kids to promote social and emotional learning. The after school program is for kindergarten to fifth grade students and is currently in three Title I schools in the Charleston area: Burns Elementary, North Charleston Elementary, and Chicora Elementary. In recent years, WINGS has expanded to Lake City, SC as well as to two other states: Georgia (Atlanta) and North Carolina (Charlotte). WINGS uses current college students as WINGSLeaders and are funded as Americorps members. WINGS Leaders explicitly teach social and emotional skills to students within their Nests which consist of approximately 10 students within the same grade. Components throughout the week include: Community Unity, Choice Time, Academic Center, Discussion, WINGSWorks, and WildWINGS.
